Deutsche Telekom AG is one of the world's leading telecommunications and information technology service providers. As an internationally operating company, Deutsche Telekom AG offers millions of private and corporate customers around the globe the entire spectrum of modern information technology and telecommunications services. In its day to day business, Deutsche Telekom relies on diversity. It is an essential aspect of the company’s culture.
In
the Deutsche Telekom Group, living diversity means that employee
individuality and pluralism are recognized and respected, and the
potential is used for the success of the business. Our approach is
based on six factors: Age, gender, ethnic origin, sexual orientation,
religion and skills. Some of the focus areas are to bring more women
in management positions, to foster international cooperation and to
prepare Deutsche Telekom for the demographic change. Currently the
share of women in upper management positions is 13 percent (last
revised: end of 2008). Until 2011, Deutsche
Telekom aims to fill at least 20 percent of all new upper management
and expert positions with women.
The
company backs this approach up with a whole range of measures.
Female recruits are introduced to technical professions with programs
that have been specially designed for girls. On the so called annual
‘Girls' Day’ of the German Industry, female secondary school
students can get an impression of the working world at Deutsche
Telekom. Mentoring programs help female employees to build networks
and to foster their careers. Training and communication measures aim
at creating an inclusive and open corporate culture.
To
support employees with families, the Group operates day-care centres
and is involved in the "Local Family Alliances" initiative.
Flexible work-time models and teleworking enable employees to combine
work and family and private life. For its commitment with regard to
family-friendliness, Deutsche Telekom - together with the "Forum
for Women in Industry" - has been awarded a special prize by the
German Government. Next to it, Deutsche Telekom received the
Total-E-Quality award three times. The award is given for exemplary
human resource practices that support the long-term promotion of
women in the workplace.
Deutsche Telekom is committed to equal opportunities for years. In 2004 the first steps were taken to implement a comprehensive diversity program. Together with other leading companies, Deutsche Telekom founded the Charter of Diversity in 2006. The Charter represents a fundamental commitment to appreciating and treating people fairly in business organisations, over 500 companies have signed the Charter so far.
Deutsche Telekom is a long-time Corporate Member of EWMD and supported various activities. In 2008, Deutsche Telekom was a main sponsor of the International EWMD Conference in Lisbon.
