Have you ever heard about Gender Medicin? It is not so difficult to imagine that women might need other medicine than men? Did you know that most of the testing of medicine is done on men?
There is some development: The first worldwise Gender Medicine Congress took part in 2006 in Berlin, the 2nd 2007 in Rom and the 3rd in Stockholm. This year the Univeristy in Vienna will start the first "Gender Medicin Course" for the summer semester in 2010. In Sweden there is a press announcement in February 2010 that the Erica Lederhausen Professorship in Gender Medicine Research will be based at the Karolinska Institutet Centre for Gender Medicine, which was inaugurated in 2001 as the first centre for gender medicine in the world. The Karolinska Institutet is one of Europe's largest medical universities, founded in 1810 on Kungsholmen island on the west side of Stockholm
But wait a minute: There is Marianne J. Legato, who is the founder of the english magazine "Gender Medicine" with online articles about the topics and she is the author of the famous book Eva's Rib, The Groundbreaking Guide to Women's Health, which was the basis of the whole movement.
