Venice, a wonderful place, and The Redeemer Celebration....

Our friend and EWMD Reggio Emilia member, Tiziana Scolari, with her group “Piscine Favorita”, will organize a wonderful trip to Venice for the “Redeemer celebration”. On July 18, 2015, a bus with EWMD members and their families will leave from Reggio Emilia early in the afternoon, boarding on a private motor vessel in the late afternoon, for a navigation in the lagoon until Saint Mark Square. A buffet will be available on the boat and the rest of the evening will be spent in the water, surrounded by hundreds of decorated ships. At 11pm, there will be an amazing fireworks show, and at 2am, we will leave the lagoon and arrive in Reggio around 5am. The cost will be of 110.00 euro/person, and will cover the bus, the motor vessel, buffet and insurance.

The “Redeemer celebration” is the event that celebrates the construction, wanted by the Order of the Venetian Senate, in September 1576, of the Redeemer church as ex-vow for the liberation of the town from the plague that, in just two years, provoked the death of about a third of the population.

At the end of the plague, in 1577, it was decided to celebrate every year with the preparation of a votive bridge. For this reason, every year, on the Saturday preceding the third Sunday of July, a long votive bridge, prepared on the Giudecca Canal, links the island with some rafts at the level of the Holy Spirit’s Church, allowing in this way pedestrians to reach the Church of the Redeemer.

Assisting the fireworks show from the motor vessel, allows to follow with emotion, the magic of the Redeemer Celebration: lights game, reflections on the water and on Venice’s wonderful buildings and palaces, surrounded by a multitude of boats different in shape, color and ornaments…
