Gender Equality Index 2015: country-specific analysis of trends from 2005-2012

In June 2015, EIGE launched the first update of the Gender Equality Index – a comprehensive measure of gender equality in the EU. The results show visible, albeit marginal, improvements between 2005 and 2012 in the six domains covered: work, money, knowledge, time, power and health. However, the overall score of gender equality in the EU Member States remains low – only 52.9 out of 100. In order to have a more comprehensive picture of the situation and trends in individual countries, EIGE is preparing a country-specific analysis of gender gaps and levels of achievement for all Member States.

The report provides the first attempt at populating the satellite domain of violence. It indicates that violence against women cannot be measured without regular and reliable statistics and a thorough consideration of the causes of violence, which are rooted in unequal gender relations.
